Special Westwall bunker dug up for investigation
At Dillingen in the Saarland, a very special bunker for Dreischartenturm was excavated last week. The information collected can be used for a possible future monumental status. The bunker is a very special Regelbau 132b. It’s a bunker for Dreischartenturm in Baustarke A (3,5 meter thick walls). This particular bunker was prepared to be incorporated […]

Visual decline
Unfortunately for our field of interest, I often have to write about demolition and decay. The process is unstoppable and we have to live with it. However, raising concerns can never be bad. Last week I made a visit to Stützpunktgruppe Voorne, in Holland. It was like seeing old friends. It was six years ago […]

Before the graffiti
Preservation of bunkers has pros and cons. Sometimes there are moral dillemas. And for me that’s the Landfront of Vlissingen in Holland. About ten years ago, a first part of the magnificent Landfront Vlissingen was made accessible through a bicycle path. The Bunkerbehoud (bunker preservation) foundation removed loads of earth. For the first time in […]

613 with turret found in Südwall
Not an everyday find: A 613 artillery observer still with its observation turret. It happened in the Stützpunktgruppe Port de Bouc in the Südwall. It’s located in Wn 025 and it was used by the Art.Reg. II./338 . After some debate on Axis History it looks like this is a Czech turret re-used as observation turret. More info […]
