Flakbunker Hamburg becomes energy station

The huge Flakbunker of Wilhelmsburg in Hamburg will become a renewable energy power plant. The roof and side of the bunker will be covered with solar panels. Different systems inside the bunker will provide heating and power for the nearby neighborhood. More info (in German) via IBA Hamburg.

Luftschutz bunker in Oostende protected

A Luftschutzbunker in Oostende, Belgium, gets the monumental status. The Flemish secretary Geert Bourgeois (N-VA) approved the protection of the bunker. He visited it last year. Hamburg Luftschutzturm destroyed

A Luftschutzturm (air raid shelter) near Rosshafen, Hamburg has been destroyed. The five-storied bunker which was finished off with a layer of bricks over the concrete “had” to be destroyed for a new container terminal.
