Demolition of Saint-Nazaire bunker on its way

In Saint-Nazaire the bunker of the Marine Flak Abteilung 820 still resists the demolition hammer. It will be destroyed in the end, but it’s stronger than expected. It is huge too. 1500 m2, with walls 2 meters thick. The demolition started in june 2016 and should finish before 1 September, when then school next to […]

Lifting a plate, part two

Some time ago I’ve posted the video by Steve Powell of the Festungspak plate at Wn Schonbucht Mitte on Guernsey. This time I made my own video in Batterie Ørlandet, better known as Austrått Fort in Norway. A group of Czech volunteers restored the gun and accessories to mint condition.

Bunker type 634 found in Hoek van Holland

Finally some nice news from Hoek van Holland, at least for the moment. An interesting bunker type 634 for Sechsschartenturm was found at Wn 33H near the Oranjesluis in the Landfront. The bunker’s armoured turret was scrapped just after the war and a part of the roof was demolished. The new dike was built over the […]

Kleinstglocke 90P9 found!

The Channel Islands are still full of surprises. This week a a 6 t. observation cupola was uncovered in Wn Spitzpunkt at Grande Havre. To me it looks like the Kleinstglocke type 90P9 was installed in some sort of small bunker. On Alderney and Jersey the same type of turret was installed in Vf bunkers. […]

Bunker found in downtown Warsaw

Works in Warsaw found a German bunker in the center of the city during works on a tram line. According to the photos it looks like a regular Tobruk to me, but a curator at the Polish army museum talks about a ’10-foot (3-meter) deep bunker’. It wil be moved to the museum. However the […]

Firing a Festungspak

It’s a legendary weapon: the 4.7cm Festungspak 36 (t), the former Czech 4cm kanón vz.36. I only know the stories of how it sounded. A sharp BONG! I found this youtube movie of a gun firing. I think it’s MO S-19 “Alej” near Hlučín in the Czech republic.
