In Saint-Nazaire the bunker of the Marine Flak Abteilung 820 still resists the demolition hammer. It will be destroyed in the end, but it’s stronger than expected. It is huge too. 1500 m2, with walls 2 meters thick. The demolition started in june 2016 and should finish before 1 September, when then school next to […]

Regelbau 656 discovered near Nieuwpoort

A long forgotten Regelbau 656 was discovered near the Albert I-monument in Nieuwpoort. The bunker is completely stripped but apart from that in a beautiful conditions. Its number (Ost-W 019-252) is clearly visible and the St sign on the outside and instructional texts on the inside are still sharp. It was probably part of Wn […]

Demolition in Croisic

Sad news from the demolition front again. A very rare L 406 on the Croisic peninsula will be demolished or at least altered. In 2010 new houses already closed in but now the bunker has to disappear (completely or under a new house). The faith of the Vf bunkers around this one is unknown. A […]

Allen Gewalten zum Trotz sich erhalten

Two years ago I’ve posted about the Fl 250 anti-aircraft headquarters in Saint-Marc near Saint-Nazaire. Back then more than 400 letters from all over Europe ended up at the office of the Service Territorial d’Architecture et du Patrimoine. However, there was no reaction to any of these letters, although they were surprised by the big […]

L 410 around the Füherhauptquartier Wolfsschlucht 2

The Füherhauptquartier Wolfsschlucht 2 is known for its enormous variety of bunker designs. There are local designs for machine gun turrets and plates and one can discover Luftwaffe Regelbauten never built anywhere else. A not so rare Luftwaffe design is the L 410, a command bunker for small Flak batteries. However near Margival this type […]

Dooms day hideout for the 21st of December

The Fördergruppe WH 316 has generously provided Dooms day believers (or bunker enthusiastics) a sleeping place from 20 until 22 December to survive this scary day. Who doesn’t want to live and sleep inside a Regelbau 108 and enjoy a dinner prepared on a WT80 bunker oven for a day? Hello doomsday theorists and Westwall […]

German bunkers in Romania

On the coast of Constanza in Romania near the old casino some MG bunkers were built during the war. One of them is a Tobruk bunker, covered with a hood and attached to an underground tunnel system. More on bunkers in Romania. See http://aedificium.rockhall.ro/
